Review by Bridgit Ryan for Your Baby Week by Week: The Ultimate Guide to Caring for Your New Baby

This book was my “baby bible” when my first two children were born several years ago. We knew we would use the attachment style of parenting before our first was even born and we were thrilled to find a book that affirmed our decisions along with providing excellent, up-to-date medical advice on just about everything we needed to know about taking care of our babies. Now we are expecting our third baby and will definitely be purchasing a new copy- the old one is dogeared and falling apart from use! If you are a mom who enjoys breastfeeding, wearing and sleeping with your baby this book is for you. I also strongly recommend The Baby Care Book: Absolutely Everything You Need To Know About Your Fabulous Baby

After reading lots of different babycare books this book is a real breath of fresh air. As a new mum this guide has been really helpful. It offers information in bitesize chunks, covering all the issues you could expect during that week of your baby’s life for the first 2 years of their life. It is non-judgemental and discusses all the things you might be considering from routines to dummies, listing the pros and cons so you can make your own considered judgement. It’s great to be able to look ahead to the weeks to come so you have an idea of what to expect – and as the mum of a 3 week old, being able to identify a growth spurt was a real help! I would recommend this to anyone with a new baby.

We bought this book when our daughter was 3 weeks old and it has been our constant companion ever since. It is full of great advice and it is not at all preachy like alot of other baby books on the market (sorry, did someone mention Gina Ford?). It gives a fair balance of pros and cons on subjects like co-sleeping and controlled crying, so that you are able to make up your own mind about what will suit you and your baby. It doesn’t make you feel like you HAVE to do any one thing. The weaning appendix at the back is also excellent and very easy to follow. It is just a shame that the book finishes at 6 months as we are going to miss the guidance that it gives.

I had numerous recommendations from friends to buy this or that baby book that would have the wee one in a regimented routine in no time. I wasn’t comfortable with the thought of being told what to do – how do you then handle things if the baby has its own ideas? As my Mum pointed out, the baby won’t have read the book….
The great thing about this book is that it tells you what to expect rather than what to do, and is filled with advice rather than instructions. I found it very reassuring and also uncannily accurate so far (my son is 12 weeks old). I also found it helpful to read ahead and feel confident that things would get easier (which they have). It’s comprehensive but not daunting, and very easy to read. My husband and I refer to it all the time and his parents even bought a copy they were so impressed.
I would have been lost without the calm voice of reason and experience that this book provided in the first weeks of my son’s life.

This is a practical book, offering sensible advise in sub-categories, so you can dip in and out as required. I have on occasions been wondering what to do and if I’m doing things right (especially when looking at Gina Ford!), but this book assures you that your baby is progressing along nicely and giving you useful guidance.
My baby is now 4 months old and I am going to miss having the guidance of the book in a couple of months!

I remebered learning at medical school that young babies couldn’t see in colour and thats why they were so drawn to black nd white, so I searched for this type of book when my little girl was born. This was one of my favourites it’s short and simple and she loved it. Babies are drawn to faces anyway so she was hooked from when she was tiny. At first she would stare as I showed her the book as she got older she would reach out for it and sarted to appreciate the crinkly noise it made. She can turn the pages heself now and loves to chew it. It has lasted from 4 weeks and is still one of her favs at 6 months a great buy.

This book has become a fast favorite for my 21-week-old daughter. The book has three pages entitled Daddy, Mummy and Baby. The pages make excellent crunching noises and there’s a small velcro strap sewen to the book to ensure it doesn’t fall out of your baby’s pushchair. This purchase was worthwhile.

This book was able to hold the attention of our 7 week old boy for ages. He was fascinated by the contrasting colours and pictures. Definitely recommended.

This is a great book for all babies. However, the high contrast colours and mirror make it especially good for babies and children with visual problems. As do the book’s tactile and auditory qualities, adding extra dimensions to the book, making it more interesting for children who can’t see well.

My little boy loves this and is fascinated by the black and white faces and patterns. He also likes to give it a good chewing as it is the perfect size for little gums and pudgy hands.
